Mary Anna Ball

Mary Anna Ball has been studying dance since the age of four, exclusively at the American Academy Ballet under the direction of director Kim R. Pauley. She was invited to join the Charleston Ballet in 2011. Since joining the company, Ms. Ball has also studied at intensive summer programs at Burklyn Ballet Theater in Burlington, Vermont and at Next Generation Ballet in Tampa, Florida.

At the School of the Charleston Ballet and these summer dance intensives, she has studied with guest teachers and choreographers such as Olivier Wecxsteen, Ronnie DeMarco, Jerry Rose, Lorraine Graves, Jacqui Haas, Ashley Tuttle, Ivonne Lemus, Miguel Campaneria, Gyula Pandi, Rob Royce, Radenko Pavlovich, John Gardner, Amanda McKerrow, Alun Jones, Peter LeBreton Merz, Peter Stark, Lia Cirio, Jeffrey Cirio, Misty Copeland, Brian Murphy, Michael Crawford, Michelle Joy, Rhiannon Turley, Angela Price, Ariel Serrano, Jamal Story, Will Roboski and Leah Copley Summers.

While a member of the company, Mary Anna has performed in many classical and contemporary ballets such as THE SEASONS, SHE LOVES YOU (Music of the Beatles) , THE NUTCRACKER accompanied by the WV Symphony Orchestra, LA BAYADERE, ROMEO AND JULIET, PAQUITA, HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, WIZARD OF OZ, BOLERO, DOODLE DANDY, full-length SWAN LAKE, GAMES, JANIS AND JOE SUITE choreographed by Christopher Fleming, ON THE APPALACHIAN TRAIL composed to an original score of Grant Cooper, KEEP ON TRUCKIN’, SUNBURST SERENADE, SQUARE DANCE, RHAPSODY, POULERE, THE FLAPPERS, AFRICAN IMAGES, and ROMANIAN FOLK DANCES. She performed a solo from GYPSY at Marshall University as a guest artist. Ms. Ball performed POLTERGIST, TANGO, CAT DANCE with the Beo String Quartet.

She also has performed MAJISIMO choreographed by Miguel Campaneria, DIANA AND ACTAEON and shorter works such as Celtic Reel, BeeGees ballet, Magic Act, and several Carnaval and Bollywood fundraising events that were sponsored with the Charleston Ballet.

Ms. Ball was a 2014 recipient of the West Virginia Division of Culture and History scholarship for her performance of Kitri’s first act variation from the ballet DON QUIXOTE. Mary Anna will hold a BA from Marshall University in both Humanities: Classics and Latin with a minor in ancient Greek. She was the 2018 Maier Latin Scholar. She was an Associate Producer on the documentary film “ANDRE VAN DAMME & THE STORY OF THE CHARLESTON BALLET” and assists in teaching at American Academy Ballet. Audiences will continue to enjoy her performances in the upcoming 63th anniversary season of the Charleston Ballet.
