Born in Granada, Spain, Luis became a major figure in the Spanish Dance field at an early age and traveled throughout the world as soloist with the renown companies of Pilar Lopez, Mariemma, Maria Rosa and Jose Greco. His imaginative choreography was incorporated into many of their programs and he was soon in demand not only as a dancer, but as a choreographer as well. He is the recipient of numerous grants from various State Arts Councils and, among others, has choreographed for New York City Opera, Nashville, Ballet, Ballet Hispanico, Ballet Concerto, Flamenco Ole, Yamada Tokyo Ballet, Arte Famenco, Grand Rapids Ballet, Copenhagen Danseteatret and the Eugene Ballet. He has won awards in Denmark for his FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS and Ravel’s BOLERO and in Philadelphia for THE HOUSE OF BERNARDA ALBA.

He created a full-length ballet version of Bizet’s CARMEN for Ballet Concerto and will choreograph Rimsky-Korsakov’s CAPRICCIO ESPAGNOL this summer.
