Angela Price began her ballet studies with Andre Van Damme at the American Academy Ballet. She began dancing with the Charleston Ballet in a minor role with a group of children in DOODLE DANDY. She now performs as a principal dancer.
She has participated in the West Virginia Dance Festival for many years and studied from such notable teachers as the late Duncan Noble and Gyula Pandi from North Carolina School for the Arts, David Howard and Oleg Briansky of New York, Yves de Bouteiller, Ariel Serrano and Miguel Campaneria, former principal of the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, and frequent guest artist and choreographer of the Charleston Ballet. In the past, she attended Point Park College’s International Summerdance where she studied with Laura Alonso and Barbara Sandonato, Briansky Saratoga Ballet in New York where she studied with Mireille Briane, Olga Dvorovenko, David Keary, Robert Maiorano, and Ilene Bergelson, a jazz/musical theater teacher, and The School of Cleveland San Jose Ballet, where she studied with Gladisa Guadalupe, Karen Gabay, Tom Smith, Dennis Nahat, Libby Lubinger, and Markian Kamichak.
Ms. Price also teaches Bodysculpt, Pilates and ballet classes to students at the American Academy Ballet,and serves in the capacity of assistant ballet mistress to the company and the apprentice company. She has acquired her certification to teach mat Pilates, and has studied with instructors Blythe McNamara and Susan Heath. Recently she has completed certification through the Pilates Physicalmind Institute with Arlene Bass in Florida and her mat II certification with Norvell Robinson, Jr. in Richmond Va. Ms. Price’s performance credits are many and include classical roles in traditional works like LES SYLPHIDES, LA FILLE MAL GARDEE, PAQUITA, SLEEPING BEAUTY , COPPELIA and GISELLE. Early in her career, she danced in original contemporary works THE WASPS, DANSE MACABRE, RHAPSODY IN BLUE, and Jerry Rose’s ballet PRAISE. TCHAIKOVSKY SUITE NO. 2, THE FLAPPERS, “Melancholy” in Van Damme’s IMAGES, AFRICAN IMAGES, and GYPSY DANCE SUITE were among folk style ballets that Ms. Price has danced. For many seasons, she has participated in student performances for WV schools, lecture demonstrations for Governor’s Honors Academy at Fairmont and Concord College, and Marshall University Spring Concert series in 1995 and again in 1997. She created the roles of Carlotta Grisi and Marie Taglioni in PAS DE QUATRE, Saeko Ichinohe’s KAZA-HANA, Oleg Briansky’s COUNTRY MOON, premiere of ELEMENTS, FAUST VARIATIONS, “the pas de trois” in SLEEPING BEAUTY with Hungarian guest dancer, Peter Agardi, “Caterpillar” in Yves de Bouteiller’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND, ROMANIAN FOLK DANCES, and DANCE IN THE MADHOUSE.
Past performance series have displayed a variety of accomplishments: Campaneria’s Spanish-style MAJISIMO, the premiere of TANGOS, the “dewdrop fairy”, "Russian", and “Spanish” in the full-length production of THE NUTCRACKER with the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Shane O’Hara’s LISBOA partnered by Donald Laney, premiere of ONWARD, and soloist roles in GRADUATION BALL, “Berta” in Pauley’s premiere of ONDINE, and full-length ballets SWAN LAKE and GISELLE.
She choreographed and performed in a dance interpretation of Benjamin Britten's
REJOICE IN THE LAMB for Kanawha Presbyterian Church in June 2001. Other collaborations include performances with the Montclaire String Quartet and Woman Song and recently with the WV Symphony's opera presentations of CARMEN and WEST SIDE STORY where she portrayed the role of "Anybody's". She has danced the leading roles in Laney's modern work FINDING PLACE , STEPPE AND BROOKE,and JOURNEY TO THE PROMISED LAND, choreographer Ronnie DeMarco's CELEBRACION, premiere of SHE LOVES YOU, music of the Beatles, RAYMONDA ACT III, the principal role in Pauley's DUSK TO DAWN, GAMES, POULENC'S PIANO CONCERTO ,premieres of WEST SIDE STORY and REPETITION. Recently audiences have seen her performances of MISS EMILY, PLAY BALL!, BOLERO, and THE SEASONS.
