Megan James

Megan James began dancing at the age of four and began taking classes with Kim Pauley at the age of eight. Initially training in several styles across several studios in the area, Ms. James committed to studying ballet exclusively in 2019 when she joined the Charleston Ballet company.

 

She has also studied at summer ballet intensives at the Rock School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; art Emotion Ballet School and Ballet West in Salt Lake City, Utah; Joffrey Las Vegas; and American Ballet Theater in a 2020 virtual intensive. Locally she has participated in workshops with Ballet Magnificat!, Beckley Dance Theater, Dance WV Fall Festival, and the West Virginia Dance Festival. Ballet masters she has studied with include Allison Debona, Rex Tilton, Beckanne Sisk, Lorraine Graves, Peter Stark, Peter Frame, Peter Merz, Jody Anderson, Jerry Rose, and Christine Shevchenko. She has also studied other styles such as modern, contemporary, musical theater, and jazz under many other renowned teachers across the United States.

 

Ms. James’ performance credits already include several classical and contemporary works. In addition to performing in ELEMENTS, THE FLAPPERS, and THE SPIRIT OF THE BAUHAUS, Ms. James has performed soloist roles in RHAPSODY IN BLUE and THE NUTCRACKER with the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra. She was part of the October 2021 premiere of DRACULA: THE SEDUCTION and has also performed with the Charleston Ballet at the West Virginia Dance Festival, FestivALL, the Breaking Boundaries of Dance series, and several events throughout the community. In addition to her performances with the Charleston Ballet, Ms. James has also performed with the Moscow Ballet in their Great Russian Nutcracker and Marshall University Dance Gala in 2019, as well as a dance solo in the Appalachian Children’s Chorus’ 2018 A PATRIOTIC CHRISTMAS.

 

Ms. James assists with classes at the American Academy Ballet.
